Intelligent Alerts

Intelligent Alerts is a suite of foundational AI-powered video analysis and content generation to power improved notification content (Video Descriptions), redundant alert aggregation (Single Event Alert) and smart pattern recognition (Unusual Event Alert) to hep users understand what's happening around their home without needing to manually watch every clip or respond to every motion alert. Video Description adds summaries to alerts and Event History, significantly reducing the need to open alerts. The aggregation of similar events happening within a close time frame makes the alerts users do receive significant events – removing things like alerts over and over for an event like kids playing basketball in the driveway. Unusual Event Alert sets the groundwork for intelligent home security, recognizing the difference between what is normal at the users home, like a dog in the yard or mail deliveries, to what might need attention, like a bear near the trash or a person peering into a parked car in the driveway at night.

Impact

The feature was launched across Ring in the US and select international markets as well as implemented on Blink, another smart home security camera offering owned by Amazon, and on Echo devices as an offering of Alexa+. The work continues to provide a foundation for additional AI-powered priorities on the roadmap and Video Descriptions and Single Event Alert received such high user satisfaction and success with reducing notification fatigue the features were switched to auto-on for premium subscription holders.

Single Event Alert reduced notifications by 40% by grouping up to 15 alerts into one. Unusual Event Alert is capable of reducing notifications by up to 90%, specially developed to service pro-users with multiple
