Fire Watch
Fire Watch is an AI-powered safety feature that uses Ring cameras to detect and alert users to potential fire hazards around the home and community, expanding Ring’s role from security into proactive environmental awareness. The feature analyzes video for indicators like smoke, flames, or unusual light patterns, surfacing early warning signs of fire activity in real time and enabling faster response in critical moments. It builds on Ring’s existing alert system while reducing the need for users to manually monitor their cameras to understand when something important is happening. Fire Watch establishes a foundation for intelligent systems that can recognize and respond to real-world risks, helping protect not just the home, but the broader community as well.
Role
I was the concept designer for the feature, working directly with Ring's founder Jamie Siminoff to shape the product, initial designs, and prototype for presentation to Devices & Services SVP Panos Panay.
Impact
The feature was launched across Ring in the US in partnership with Watch Duty. In addition to helping Ring users, the feature also helps in providing better data for emergency services and resource deployment.
